The Towai tied up at Nelson and ended the nightly cargo and mail service between Wellington and Nelson. 3

Mt Ruapehu erupted and the ensuing lahar destroyed Dome Hut and damaged the Staircase Kiosk. 3

The first man landed on the moon. It was live on radio and film was flown by RNZAF Canberra from Sydney for showing on television less than six hours after the event. 3


22-Aug-1969
The Status of Children Act removed some of the distinction between the rights of those born in wedlock and those who had been called 'illegitimate'. 3


04-Nov-1969
The mall had come to Wellington with the opening of Cuba Mall and the bucket fountain was erected. 3
