On Friday 2nd May 1975 a sales based New Zealand music chart was again published; the first time since the 1960 sales based charts of New Zealand's Playdate magazine. The RIANZ singles charts were compiled for The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand  (RIANZ) by various companies over the years since 1975 (including the Heylen Research Centre) and are now based on sales from New Zealand music stores as well as radio play information.

My website will only cover the period up to the end of 1998; the RIANZ website covers the period from 1999 onwards. RIANZ, not myself, are the authority on how these charts were compiled over these years
